Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta Encapsulation is one process, of many, that allows mom to easily consume and utilize nutrients from her placenta. Yes, it may sound weird or maybe even gross but we promise you it’s not!

Moms who consume their placenta after delivery report…

  • increased energy
  • positive mood
  • replenishing of essential hormones and vitamins
  • lack of baby blues
  • lower incidences of postpartum depression
  • increased milk production
  • less postpartum bleeding

It’s important to note that the benefits reported from consuming your own placenta vary from mother to mother. To date there are not any peer reviewed studies that proving placenta consumption to be beneficial.

Prior to delivery, we will arrange a pick-up and drop-off of your placenta, depending on where and when you deliver. We will let you know how and when to get ahold of us and how to handle the placenta until we are able to have it in our care.

All of Long Island Breastfeeding’s Placenta Encapsulation Specialists are trained, experienced, and prepared to handle your placenta in a hygienic, safe, and respectful way.

In the most simple terms, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), your placenta will be steamed, dehydrated, ground, and put into capsules. Or, if you prefer the raw method, we will forgo the steaming, which maintains a higher quality and number of nutrients. You will then take a series of capsules throughout your postpartum period as discussed with your Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, specific to your needs.

YUP! Even though breastfeeding is natural, it does not always mean it’s easy. Hospitals and pediatricians are not always certified in lactation- many mothers are surprised to learn that their doctors, while supportive of breastfeeding, do not know how to be supportive of Breastfeeding Management. Taking a breastfeeding course while pregnant and aligning your support system before baby arrives can make all the difference!

It depends on the service, but the sooner the better! Long Island Breastfeeding sees women at any gestation or any time after delivery.
